UNFICYP awards peacekeepers for their service for peace

Fourteen UNFICYP peacekeepers were awarded for their service for peace in Cyprus in a medal presentation ceremony held at the Mission’s headquarters in Nicosia today.

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Cyprus and Head of UNFICYP, Elizabeth Spehar, presented the medals to the peacekeepers and acknowledged their efforts and commitment to support the Mission in delivering its mandate despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“You have my heartfelt appreciation for your service, I know this hasn’t been an easy year, however, despite all challenges you showed commitment and professionalism while performing your duties for this Mission,” stated Ms. Spehar.

UNFICYP’s Force Commander, Major General Cheryl Pearce and senior leadership were also present at the ceremony.

Peacekeepers from Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, India, Pakistan, Russia, Serbia and the United Kingdom were among those awarded with medals for their contributions to the implementation of the Mission’s mandate on the island.
