CMP Members meet with Missing Persons Family Representatives

Nicosia, 1 March 2017 - Today, the three Members of the Committee on Missing Persons, Ms. Gülden Plümer Küçük, Mr. Nestoras Nestoros and Mr. Paul-Henri Arni, met with representatives of associations representing the families of missing persons.

The CMP Members briefed the family representatives on the recent discovery of a mis-identification of a missing person and on the steps taken by the CMP in response to this case. In particular, the Members explained the ongoing review of the genetic results used in identifications undertaken between 2007 and 2012.

The Members conveyed their sympathy to the family representatives for the uncertainty created and assured them that the ongoing review was being carried out in cooperation with Bode Cellmark Forensics, a highly reputed American laboratory, in line with the strictest international scientific standards. They undertook to keep the families of missing persons closely informed of any results over the coming weeks. They also stated that, thus far, no other cases of misidentification had been discovered in the ongoing review.
