UNFICYP kicks-off 16 days of activism against gender-based violence with voices from civil society

To mark the beginning of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, together with the Australian High Commission, held an virtual meeting with representatives from civil society organizations to discuss their efforts against human trafficking on the island, existing policies and legislation in place and ways forward.

Speaking on the subject were Fezile Osum, from the Human Rights Platform, an umbrella organization founded in 2020 by five leading rights based organizations, and Katerina Stephanou, from Step Up Stop Slavery, a non-profit organization which is working to disrupt the human trafficking business model through education programmes.

Around 30 participants joined the discussion and had the opportunity to interact with the speakers while the conversation was moderated by Lauren Mcalister, UNFICYP Gender Affairs Officer and Costa Constanti, Australian High Commission Public Diplomacy and Policy Officer.
