SRSG Spehar, Force Commander Humayun visit the Karpas

The Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) in Cyprus, Ms. Elizabeth Spehar, and UNFICYP Force Commander Major General Mohammad Humayun Kabir, travelled on 17 March to the Karpas, where they had the opportunity to meet with various communities living in the area, as part of the SRSG’s broader efforts to exchange views with a range of voices across the island.

The SRSG and Force Commander also visited the newly renovated Apostolos Andreas monastery, where they explored the history of the monastery and witnessed the excellent work on phase one of this comprehensive project undertaken through UNDP and the bi-communal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage.

The visit culminated in a climb to the very top of the Karpas Peninsula, where the SRSG and Force Commander enjoyed breathtaking views.
