Today, the President of the European Parliament, Mr. Martin Schulz, visited the CMP anthropological laboratory and met with CMP Members and the Committee’s Greek and Turkish Cypriot scientists. President Schulz was briefed by the three Members, Ms. Küçük, Mr. Nestoros and Mr. Arni on the progress made and the challenges faced by the Committee in the complex process of locating, exhuming and identifying missing persons.

Since 2006, the European Union has been the CMP’s most important donor with total contributions in excess of 17 million EUR.  The CMP Members thanked President Schulz for his personal support as well as for the critical role played by the European Parliament in ensuring the continuing financial and political backing of the European Union. President Schulz and the CMP Members also discussed plans to host a photo exhibition on the work of the CMP at the European Parliament in October 2016. 

So far, 638 missing persons from both communities have been identified and returned to their families for a dignified burial.
