Force Commander conducts inspection in Sector One

CAMP SAN MARTIN, 30 March 2017 - UNFICYP Force Commander Major General Mohammad Humayun Kabir paid a visit to Sector One on 27 March 2017, where he conducted an inspection of the Sector along with Deputy Chief-of-Staff in charge of Ops Support, Lt. Col. Julian Pemberton Pigott, and other officials from the mission’s military and the police components.

The aim of these inspections is to evaluate the readiness of UNFICYP units in all Sectors. Force Commander Humayun visited the the far west of the Sector, near Kato Pyrgos village, where he received a briefing on its operations. He later also visited the village of Varisha.

The visit ended with a lunch at Camp San Martin, the Sector’s headquarters, during which the Force Commander thanked Sector One personnel for their preparedness to effectively execute their duties under the United Nations flag.

UNFICYP Sector One covers a distance of approximately 90 kilometers from Kokkina village on the western coast of Cyprus to the village of Mammari, west of Nicosia. Led by Argentina, Sector One also has troops from Chile, Paraguay and Brazil.
