Famagusta students together

Civil Affairs continues to support trust-building between the communities through informal education in the Greater Famagusta region.

‘Famagusta Students Together’, a new project that aims to bring together high school students through collaborative activities, was launched on 29 February with the support of UNFICYP. ‘Students of Famagusta Together’ is a continuation of the previous afterschool activity, ‘history hunt project’, whereby youth from both communities had the chance to collaborate and learn the medieval history of Famagusta from each other through a treasure hunt game. This time, students coming from Xenion High School in Paralimni and Famagusta Turk Maarif Kolej met at Deryneia’s centre for intercommunal activities, ‘Famagusta Avenue Garage’.  With the facilitation of ‘Conversation Cafe Cyprus’ (a bi-communal initiative that aims to create spaces for meaningful connections), students had the chance to connect and learn from each other through energetic and fun team-building activities and conversations.

UNFICYP will continue to support examples of collaboration between the students of Famagusta.

Students will continue to come together at the ‘Famagusta Avenue Garage’ with the support of UNFICYP three more times before the summer break. They will build intercommunal teams and prepare projects together.
