Commissioning of the Western Area Human Rights Committee Resource Centre

On 10 March 2010, the Human Rights Section of UNIPSIL with financial backstopping from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) commissioned a Human Rights Resource Center for the Western Area Human Rights Committee.

The Western Area Human Rights Committee is a coalition of human rights NGOs in the Western Area of Sierra Leone that serve as a higher forum for advocacy on emerging human rights concerns. The Resource Center was therefore established to enhance the capacity building of committee members through human rights education.

It is hoped that this facility will also serve as a common meeting point for members to harness ideas, initiatives and share experiences in order to avoid duplication of efforts and increase on the level of productivity and impact. Through such activities, Committee members can also advance their echelon of solidarity.

The commissioning was graced by reputable institutions such as the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, UNDP, Amnesty International and Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights.
