UNFICYP Force Commander Humayun hits the ground running

Following his official welcome to Cyprus on 10 October 2016, UNFICYP’s new Force Commander, Major General Mohammad Humayun Kabir, was quick to get his feet wet, spending the week familiarising himself with the mission and its day-to-day running.

Over the course of his first week, Major General Humayun received a number of induction briefings and met with the senior mission officials from UNFICYP’s military, police and civilian components. He also visited UN Flight, where he used the opportunity to speak with the Argentinian personnel, learn about their responsibilities, and observe the helicopters and other UN Flight equipment. He also undertook a familiarisation visit to Sector 2.

Major General Humayun was also treated to a welcome 'dine-in' event with senior mission staff, and attended his first weekly mission briefing, where he addressed personnel from the military, police and civilian components. In addition, he visited the Slovak Engineers’ Platoon in Camp Tatry, getting an understanding of the unit’s daily tasks ad equipment.
