Raising the bar: Female UNFICYP peacekeeper wins European Masters Powerlifting Championship

In a feat of incredible strength, Magdolna Petróczki of Hungary won the Masters European Weightlifting Championship for the 6th time, winning gold in the squat event, gold in the deadlift and silver in the bench press to be crowned the complex winner of the event. At the 12-16 July event in Pilsen, in the Czech Republic, she achieved a 405 kg compound result, becoming the overall winner of the women’s field.

Petróczki, now 48 years old, has been weightlifting competitively for 23 years. Currently serving as a peacekeeper with UNFICYP, she manages to train vigorously everyday despite the lack of a professionally equipped gym in the mission.

And she’s not done yet; Petróczki has her sights set on the Masters World Powerlifting Championships in Estonia this October. UNFICYP congratulates her on her impressive achievements, and wishes her even greater success as she continues her endeavours.
